  • Outsourcing relieves acute cybersecurity expert shortage for data management

The shortage of cloud expertise is killing companies that want to migrate their data into the emerging technology. Managed service providers (MSP) offer a way around it.

At a time when many firms are integrating new technologies to their businesses, the demand for cybersecurity experts and the availability of talents are inversely proportional. Sourcing Industry Group’s (SIG) publication Future of Sourcing, says that to address this problem, firms turn to MSPs to protect their infrastructure and sensitive data.

According to the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA) and industry analyst firm Enterprise Strategy Group (ESG), the cybersecurity skills crisis continues plunging, affecting 57 per cent of organizations.

Technology research and consulting company, Gartner’s 2021-2023 Emerging Technology Roadmap reveals that IT executives see the talent shortage as the most significant barrier to deploying emerging technologies, such as cloud-based services.

24/7 protection

Digital Risk Protection solutions provider Skurio’s Chief Executive Officer Jeremy Hendy says specialists can give round-the-clock protection to a standard that can’t be replicated in-house and Skurio’s research found that more than half of all organizations now outsource their cybersecurity in this way.

He said recruiting experienced security personnel is difficult and beyond the financial reach of many businesses, especially as cybersecurity teams must be on-call to deal with attacks at any time. Finding extra resources to train and develop internal teams can leave security leaders fighting an uphill battle to retain the best talent.

While outsourcing cybersecurity provides a cost-effective way to harness security expertise, it also offers other benefits including assurance through contracted service level agreements (SLAs), having metrics and specific results, and new ways to monetize cybercrime.
